McRail RMC Constructions delivers earthworks and groundworks at Newhurst Energy-from-Waste facility in Leicestershire.
McRail RMC Constructions were appointed to undertake earthworks and groundworks at Newhurst, Energy- from-waste facility in Leicestershire, on behalf of Byrne Bros.
Newhurst Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) near Shepshed, Leicestershire, provides sustainable treatment capacity for up to 455,000 tonnes of residual waste per year, generating up to 40 megawatts of energy – which is enough to power around 80,000 homes.
The energy recovery facility will deliver essential sustainable waste treatment, supporting the transition of non-recyclable waste away from landfill and contributing to efforts to combat climate change.
Designed to process up to 350,000 tonnes of non- recyclable waste annually, the plant generates up to 42MW of sustainable baseload electricity while recovering metals and ash for reuse, supporting circular economy objectives. Despite challenges including the pandemic and supply-chain disruption, the project was completed on schedule.
